Fall 2006
Dear New GYLI Faculty Member,
Thank you for being an exceptional instructor and for your commitment to change the lives of young people. We are very excited about beginning the GYLI journey with you aboard the Denis Sullivan or Lettie G. Howard.
GYLI is a leadership, diversity, and adventure program that seriously takes on social justice and social change. Throughout our three-year program, students and faculty engage in a fun, co-learning, experiential, hands-on and transformative experience in each summer institute. All participants are immersed in dialogue and exercises exploring pluralism based on religion, class, gender, age, cultural background, sexual orientation, and ability. Students and faculty return to their schools with fresh ideas embodied in their original Leader Learning Plans (LLPs).
As a faculty sponsor and now part of the GYLI team you have a crucial part to play. Not only are we relying on you to supervise safe travel with your student group to and from each institute, but your intentional presence and involvement is important for the entire GYLI experience, both while on the institute and back home at school during the academic year.
We want to take care to equip you for your GYLI journey in the best way possible. There will be a faculty training conducted in April of 2007 where all new GYLI faculty will have a chance to meet and gain crucial understanding of the GYLI mission, vision, and specific practices.
I think that if you look around you will not find a more ambitious, economical, and rewarding program for students and schools. I am very excited about our 2007 summer institutes, and I am eager to work with your school as our program grows and solidifies. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any further information.
Please fill out the info below to begin the application process, and then follow the links on the left. Welcome Aboard!!
