Welcome to GYLI's Educator Workshops!

These one-day workshops are for teachers, administrators, counselors, coaches, and anyone else who works in the field of education. The theme of the workshops is collaborative leadership and diversity in your school, and the setting is on board a tall ship for a day at sea.

Raising and lowering sails, navigating, and other sailing tasks will frame engaging dialogue and learning about the following topics:

This workshop takes place on board the Freedom Schooner Amistad, a living replica of the historic Amistad vessel from the nineteenth century. This workshop precedes the Annual Legislative Conference (Sep 24-27), hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.


Fort Pierce, FL (at the Inner Harbor)
January 23, 2009
This workshop takes place on board the Schooner Denis Sullivan, a replica of the type of ship that sailed the Great Lakes in the nineteenth century. The ship will be docked at the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, in the Chesapeake Bay.


Cost and Deadlines



Workshop cost is $400. This includes a light breakfast, lunch, and all program materials.

As a preview for the 2009 ISL, GYLI will be offering teacher/administrator workshops in India from February 1-6, 2009.
