Day 3: Welcome to Earth

Day 3: Welcome to Earth

Greetings!

Our day (for some) started at 7am with a run around United World College. Breakfast started at 8am, which consisted of sweet pancakes, gallo pinto, fried eggs, and, (of course) authentic coffee. Then by 9am we were on the road to EARTH University. The three and a half hour bus ride was led by an amazing tour guide who explained the history of San Jose and pointed out beautiful wildlife. One group was even lucky enough to spot a young sloth!

Upon arriving at the University and settling in, we were treated to a delicious lunch with EARTH specialties such as locally grown bananas and avocado burritos. We then toured the University, which is beautiful and amazingly sustainable. While on the tour, the group was able to pick starfruit from the trees (while others ate live termites). We tried some gourmet coffee in the University cafe and shopped for souvenirs.

IMG_2562Student-led groups required deep thinking today. One group reflected and journaled about the GYLI experience while the other discussed LGBTQ+ identity. We ended by discussing the experience over dinner, which, as always, was delicious. Finally, we were able to hear from four EARTH University from various countries: Nii from Nigeria, Omar from Sierra Leone, and Annette from Rwanda,  who all talked about their hopes in inspiring their communities. We can’t  wait to see what the next few days hold!

Buenas noches,

East Watch Group (Nadiyah, Franklin, Alanna, Annalyse, Chris, Qays)
