I also work in the legal department at Emerson Electric Company in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2004, I participated in year one of GYLI. The experience was amazingly transformative and inspired me to pursue my interests in global studies. In 2005, I participated in the GYLI’s year two program at the Lama Foundation in New Mexico. After collaborating with my GYLI peers, I felt I had the tools and support necessary to become a change agent in the global arena. With these tools, I pursued an education in Chinese studies, graduating from Colgate University with a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature in 2010. GYLI is not your ordinary high school program. Instead, the GYLI program inspires students to build bridges and pursue peace throughout their academic careers and beyond.
I am incredibly grateful for GYLI and am very happy that my high school, John Burroughs School, has continued to encourage students to participate in the program. A proud GYLI alum, it is my hope that students will be equally as inspired by GYLI and I welcome any questions about my experiences with the program: [email protected]
